The Torii Health Story
Torii Health exists because many SOFA-status Americans living in Japan—especially those who are Space-Available—do not have reliable access to care.
While working as a family physician at Camp Zama, I saw how often Space-Available patients struggled to get timely and accessible care. Even though I worked at the clinic, my own family was also Space-Available. We experienced these challenges firsthand while navigating pregnancy and childbirth in Japan without a shared language or familiar healthcare system.
Over time, it became clear that this was not an individual problem, but a structural one. Many Americans in Japan are left without a true medical home (see JCMA for full analysis).
Torii Health was created to change that—to provide clear communication, coordinated care, and a medical home SOFA-status Americans in Japan can trust.
